Though Cannes is known for its world-renowned festival, the city has plenty of surprises to offer thanks to its geographic placement: located on the Mediterranean sea in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region (of which it is the capital), this seaside resort offers the people of Cannes a host of beaches and nautical activities that attract around 3 million tourists each year.

In Cannes, there are no less than 13 public beaches and 33 private beaches made available to holidaymakers in both summer and winter, each with its own unique characteristics and set of nautical and sporting activities.

With so much choice, it might be difficult to find the perfect beach for your needs. In this blog article, we’re going to share a few of the Cannes beaches that are well worth a visit.

The Beaches of La Bocca

The beaches of La Bocca, located on the coast of Cannes, are a set of sandy stretches bringing together several kilometres of public beaches. With their fine sand, they extend up to Mandelieu and offer up some truly tranquil spaces, as they are slightly removed from the centre of Cannes. However, this does mean that tourists will need to take the car to reach them.

These public beaches can be found not far from Cannes La Bocca, a district of Cannes considered the city’s second soul thanks to the diversity of its sporting infrastructure and leisure areas. This site also makes it possible to visit L’Estérel, a mountain range located on the coast, as well as the hinterland and other livelier towns to the east, like Juan-les-Pins or Nice.

Among these beautiful beaches we find the Rochers de La Bocca beach, located near the Boulevard du Midi, one of two public non-smoking beaches; the Le Cabanon beach, where you can rent deckchairs, parasols and beach equipment; or the BoccaCabana public beaches – 100% free with showers at your disposal, kiosks and a range of varied restaurants offering holidaymakers a bite to eat at any time of day.

The benefit of this beach is its location in the city of Cannes, making it the perfect place to relax without having to venture too far. The beach also offers Wi-Fi connection, as well as access for people with disabilities.

On the beach, you’ll also find the Waikiki restaurant: this establishment, open from noon onwards, offers a variety of different Mediterranean dishes, desserts and cocktails – all with a sea view. Please note, bookings can only be made by telephone.

The Le Midi Beach is located just after the port of Cannes, heading towards Mandelieu la Napoule. Stretching out to meet the beaches of La Bocca, it offers a magnificent view of L’Estérel and the Lérins Islands, an archipelago located off the coast of the French Riviera. Less crowded than the other beaches of La Croisette, this family-friendly beach lies adjacent to private beaches with restaurants and two beach-volleyball courts, and also offers a selection of nautical activities. Not far from the beach, you’ll find the Square Mistral, a luscious and shaded space which is particularly pleasant in the hot summer days.

This Cannes beach, a fantastic place to relax, is Blue Flag-certified, an award given to municipalities in recognition of their sustainable and environmentally respectful management.

The Beaches of La Croisette

The beaches of La Croisette are a real must for holidaymakers coming to Cannes because, just like the city itself, they are synonymous with glamour and luxury. There, you’ll find the private Vegaluna beach, an exceptional site facing the palaces and luxury hotels of La Croisette and offering an elegant restaurant that is both understated and trendy; likewise, the CBeach offers an incredible location just a stone’s throw from the Palais des Festivals, giving it an aura associated with the many celebrities who travel there for the Cannes Festival.

The beaches of La Croisette also offer a range of nautical activities to tourists, like diving, or special areas for sports enthusiasts. Their advantage lies in their proximity to the legendary sites of La Croisette. Other than their location, they offer a magnificent panorama of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez and Sainte-Maxime, perfect for enjoying a drink when the sun goes down.

Handiplage accessible beach

Offered by the Cannes City Council and the CCAS social-action community centre, this beautiful beach open to people with disabilities is located on Bijou Beach, not far from Pointe Croisette. Open every day from mid-June to mid-September, it offers a free and accessible service to anyone holding a document attesting to a disability rating of at least 80%. A fantastic initiative from the local council.

The beach offers a range of different equipment to facilitate bathing, like ramps to get into the water, an ‘Audioplage’ system for the hard of hearing, and adapted chairs… A comprehensive initiative allowing everyone to make the most of the summer holidays.
